Welcome to Elgin, Minnesota

Prevent Water Freeze
The City of Elgin is urging all residents to regularly check the temperature of water coming into their home or business.
If the coldest temperature coming out of a faucet is below 40 degrees you are encouraged
to allow water to run constantly at a “pencil thin stream” for the next two months to prevent pipes from freezing. Please note only one faucet needs to be kept running.
To test the water temperature, turn your cold water on. Use only your cold water faucet or turn your water to only the cold setting. Hold the tip of a thermometer under a constant flow of water until the temperature holds. (a basic outdoor thermometer should be fine.)
The City is asking customers to inform City Hall on the day they decide to keep the water running. Water bills will be cost averaged for persons informing the City.
