The Brush/Compost Site is at the east end of the Elgin Cemetery within the gates area. Regulations for use of the site are as follows:
Each year the site opens in the middle of April and closes in the middle of Oct.
*** This year, 2025 it will open on Saturday, April 19th (weather pending). Closed on holidays and during inclement weather.
This is a monitored site for City of Elgin residents only. Check in with the site attendant before unloading. You will be asked to sign in at the gate.
Persons attempting to dump when site is closed can be prosecuted. Out of town persons and commercial landscaping/lawn services will not be allowed to dump.
This is a brush/compost site only. Limbs and branches up to an 4 inch diameter will be accepted. Compost includes leaves, grass, garden waste, pruning and weeds.
No lumber or garbage of any kind will be accepted. No boxes, plastic bags or plastic of any kind may be left at the site.
